The Montana Centennial Train went on three separate journeys. First was a trip around the state of Montana. Second was a round trip from Montana to the New York World's Fair in 1964 with a long set of passenger cars attached. Third was a return trip by some of the cars to the New York World's Fair to go on permanent display for the duration of the fair in 1964 and 1965. The Exhibit Cars and Horse Cars eventually returned to Montana, where most still reside. |

Departed Billings, MT at 10:30AM, headed to the New York World's Fair, with some 300 Montana boosters and 72 horses on board. The train for this long round trip was at least 25 cars long, mostly passenger sleeping cars. Along the way there and back the train was on display in 16 different cities with the exhibit cars open and usually a grand parade through town. |

The rest of the train was sent into New York City via tunnel under the Hudson River where tight clearances damaged some of the murals on the sides of the Pullman cars. |
