Marlboro Unlimited Train
#6 GRAND CANYON
Staff Recreation-Dining Car
Originally, this car was to follow the two crew sleepers, but was moved to the center late in planning. The car was referred to by its many uses (Staff Recreation Car, Staff Dining Car, Staff Day Room Car, Staff Lounge Car, Staff Diner-Sleeper), ultimately being configured to provide showers, restrooms, a lounge/dining area, and a walk-through kitchen for the on-board staff..
Originally Army Hospital Unit USAX 89537, built by St. Louis Car in 1952/53. To Amtrak 3402 in 1973 and converted to a Le Pub Bar/32-seat lounge car. To Amtrak 3105 in 1980 after conversion to a cafe/lounge arrangement. To Rader Railcar.
It retained the dumbwaiter from its Amtrak days. The car's conversion for the Marlboro Unlimited was nearly complete, save for missing trucks.
Designated 'Contract Car 05' (originally designated 06) by the builder, Rader Railcar.
Seen here numbered as 1231 KRXX at the Colorado Railcar facility in 2009.
To private ownership in 2009, still without trucks.
