This list is a work-in-progress -- and probably always will be. Any additions or corrections, please email.
Fixed RBBX numbers replaced the rather fluid RBX numbers in 1995.

RBBX numbers beginning with a 4 are passenger-type cars having four axles.
RBBX numbers beginning with a 6 are passenger-type cars having six axles.
RBBX numbers beginning with an 8 are frEIGHT cars.
If the second digit is 0, the builder was ACF.
If the second digit is 1, the builder was Budd.
If the second digit is 2, the builder was Pullman.
If the second digit is 3, the builder was St. Louis Car.

If the second digit is 4, the builder was Bethlehem.
If the second digit is 5, the builder was Maxson.
If the second digit is 6, the builder was Whitehead & Kales.
If the second digit is 7, the builder was Trinity.
If the second digit is 8, the builder was FCA.
The third digit indicated the metal type of the car body (or type of cushion device for flat cars). The fourth and fifth digits were the sequence number, beginning with 01 and going as high as 23 (for the Union Pacific-sourced Pullman cars). Passenger-type cars were painted Sherwin-Williams Ringling Silver, flats Silver Bright. To align the electrical lines that were off-center along one side of each car roof (and the overhead water lines that ran though the train) meant the passenger-type cars were always turned the same way with respect to one another.
