American Orient Express
Locomotive/Power Car
383

Built in 1981 by EMD as Amtrak 383. Build number 807050-23. Owned or leased by American Orient Express (AOE) in 2003-2004. The locomotive retained its Amtrak number and most of its Pacific Surfliner paint during its time on the AOE.

The all-but-retired locomotive was used to provide electrical head end power (HEP) for the passenger cars on trips to Canada and Mexico (where, unlike with Amtrak in the US, the lead locomotives might not have electrical power for the passenger cars).

To Montreal, Maine & Atlantic's Derby Deadline for parts.

Seen here September 12, 2003 in Quebec, Canada rolling slowly eastbound at St-Leonard sideline for a meet.
